Life in the Middle

The other day I had to stop and marvel at the ingenuity of modern technology as I used one handheld device to flip channels so I could watch a soccer match half way around the world and communicated via text on another handheld device. All this while waiting for a little rectangular box to heat up my leftovers. We certainly have streamlined life and made everything more accessible. But sometimes I wonder if in our efforts to simplify, be more connected, to know more, and experience more if we haven’t made life more complicated, less personal, and fast. We seem to be living life on the edges. Here is a simplistic example.

While holding down the dirt by first base during one of PJ’s baseball games I observed a dad in the stands with his laptop across his knees and a cell phone to his ear. At the same time, there was a mother with her head buried in a romance novel. And in regard to always running from one thing to the next, I must admit I have changed clothes in the car a time or two. We hurry and scurry from one thing to the other, never or seldom giving ourselves fully to anything. Why? Because we can’t afford the luxury of full attention, full commitment, or full rest.

This coming Sunday we will begin a new series on what it is to know, experience, and live in the middle of God’s will called, “Life In The Middle”. We will discuss together the ramifications of giving ourselves wholly to discovering, knowing, and living God’s will. Understanding the Biblical principles behind a search for God’s heart will certainly have an impact on what we pursue and how we pursue it.

We begin this quest for God’s best by looking at Matthew 5:1-12 this Sunday and answering the question, “What is life in the middle?” If you get a chance, take a few minutes to read these verses.
