Glad My Nose Wasn’t Running!

I went out to feed the chickens the other morning (another story, another day) and my eyes began to water because of the bitter cold and then the tears on my face began to freeze!!!! I would never make it in Siberia!!!!

Isn’t it funny how we contextualize everything. Out in Arizona it is a “dry heat.” In Oklahoma those are “little twisters.” In Green Bay it is “some snowfall.” In Florida it is “just high winds.” Funny thing is, if you take someone from Florida and put them in Green Bay, they see the snow differently. If you take someone from Green Bay and put them in Arizona their perspective is much different. Because we all process life through our own set of biased lenses.

We often do the same with our perspective of God. We make HIm out to be what we want or what is most convenient for us. We settle into comfortable beliefs about God until He becomes simple and commonplace. The first time a person moved to Green Bay and lived through a mile high snow (exaggeration for emphasis of course) they were terrified, amazed, and had a sense of awe. How about you and me? Have we allowed the most wonderful and amazing things about the God and King we worship to become mundane and common place in our minds.

“Holy, Holy, Holy is the LORD of hosts. The whole earth is full of His glory.” Is 6:3

God “Who does great and unsearchable things, wonders without number.” Job 5:9

God “Who does great things, unfathomable, and wondrous works without number.” Job 9:10

“Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders You have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to You; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.” Ps 40:5

I want to live on that edge of awe and expectancy. That place where I am continually amazed at the work of God’s hand in my life but where I also live in constant expectation of Him doing something. I expect God to move and I expect I will be awed by Him!

So if you are looking for something that will well up a huge sense of awe in you today, go stick your tongue to the metal mailbox… or more appropriately, ask God to show you where He is working in your life, because He is!

By the way, I sure am glad my nose wasn’t running this morning!

The Beginning

Isn’t it great when something is new? Here is a short list of my favorite new things.

1. A new package of Oreo cookies. Especially if there is a cup of milk in the freezer with a thin layer of ice over the top.
2. A new can of Diet Dr. Pepper. (Sounds funny after #1)
3. That new car smell. Well, a new car if we are dreaming!!
4. The feel of a new pair of sheets
5. Cut of a new lawnmower blade
6. A new season of college football

Well, I hope that this blog becomes one of your favorite new things. oneChurch has begun with a small group of people who have a passion to make authentic disciples who are committed Christ followers.

We will try to post new blog entries several times a week that are entertaining, relevant, and informative.

Why the name oneChurch?

“There is one body and one Spirit – just as you were called to one hope when you were called – one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:4-6

We desire to be one body called to one hope and one Lord for one purpose… to make disciples.

What Should I Expect from this Blog?

Anything from news about the chickens (yes, we have chickens. The number fluctuates depending upon laying season and how hungry I am. Currently we have 6 hens and too many roosters!! Hello Chicken and Dumplings!) to upcoming info about oneChurch to stories about mission adventures to just random stories about life packaged with a slim bit of humor.
